1 killed, 2 injured in dispute over seating on Begumpura express near Lucknow

A man was killed, and two others were injured following a dispute over seating arrangements on the Begumpura Express, travelling from Jammu Tawi to Varanasi. The incident occurred earlier on Thursday as the train reached Lucknow.
According to the police, the altercation began when Tauheed, a resident of Jagdishpur in Amethi, boarded the general coach of the train at Lucknow, where a group of men from Sultanpur were already seated. The group — comprising Deepak, Mithun, Pawan, and Sujeet from Gautampur village — became involved in a heated argument with Tauheed over a seat.
The situation escalated when Tauheed contacted his brothers and asked them to join him at Nihalgarh station. Upon the train’s arrival at Nihalgarh, Tauheed’s brothers boarded the coach, and the argument reignited. This time, it led to a violent confrontation, with knives being drawn. In the ensuing chaos, Tauheed and two of his brothers were injured.
The injured were immediately removed from the train by Railway Protection Force officers at Nihalgarh station and taken to a local health centre. Despite efforts to save him, Tauheed was declared dead upon arrival, while one of his brothers was referred to a hospital in Lucknow in critical condition. The third brother received treatment at the same health centre.
Sultanpur RPF officials, after being alerted, boarded the Begumpura Express at Sultanpur station, detaining four individuals involved in the incident. They were taken into custody as the investigation continued.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) are conducting an investigation. GRP Superintendent Prashant Verma confirmed that Tauheed boarded the train in Lucknow, and the dispute was related to seating. He added that two people were seriously injured and one died, while the other was sent to Lucknow for further treatment. As of now, no formal complaint has been filed by the deceased’s family.
The suspects remain in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
